The Mission of Dignity in Motion is to provide dignified, user-centered alternative shelter and transportation options to the Kalamazoo community. We are committed to Dignity, Kindness, Respect, Empowerment, and Transparency.
Dignity
Looking people in the eye when speaking with them, actively listening, asking people what their needs are and offering choices are some of the ways we support the loss of autonomy and choices that people from the moment they become unhoused.
Kindness
Unhoused people are people like you and me. They have thoughts, feelings, opinions, and a story. A smile, a meal, and a listening ear can go a long way.
Respect
Our friends and their belongings deserve care and attention the same as everyone else in society.
Empowerment
Survival mode is no place to live. We do what we can to relieve sources of stress, including connecting our friends with organizations and services available in our community.
Transparency
We all give what we can. And when we give money, we want to know where it goes, and we assume you do too. We greatly respect your generosity of any size, so we hide nothing. Quite often that means you get to see the exciting things that you and our amazing volunteers accomplish.
